Anybody want to chase down "possible" people?

I'm already on a tangent of a tangent of a ... and just can't take on another digression, but I discovered 2 men whose first names are "possible John" and "possible Frederick" (see husbands of linked profile).  These come from an orphaned (and untouched) gedcom with mostly empty bios/sources - I didn't look, but wouldn't be surprised if there are more "possible" people in it.

If you want to take on the mission to return these possible people from their twilight zone, please go for it!

They both existed, and they both married a Margaret Bate, in Runcorn.  Evidently the problem is that we don't know which one married this Margaret Bate, if either, and which one married the other Margaret Bate, whoever she was.

Dixon's wife called herself Maggie but I doubt if that helps much.

Probably a case of buying the certs or hoping there'll be clues in the 1921 census.
All I'm trying to suggest is that I doubt if either of them called themselves "possible" anything!  Then again, not knowing anything about naming conventions in England ...
anything is possible....
touche, Michelle!
The 1939 census may help, so I'll take a look.

Well it looks like John Dixon & Margaret Bate may have had 2 children - but they aren't living with their parents in 1939.

There were loads of Davies with mother's maiden name Bate...and I can't see anything obvious.

I also can't see any online marriages...maybe one day a closer family member may have the marriage certificate (or buy it) or maybe these people are in an ancestry tree which may at least give a clue

It looks like the Maggie Bate who married John Dixon was Maggie Reeder Bate m. John Joseph Ellams Dixon - daughter of Alexander Hayes Bate and Margaret Reeder b. abt. 1890 Frodsham, Cheshire (from a public tree on Ancestry)

After considerable research I can find no record of a Margaret Bate born to Thomas and Madeline. I think she is an invention. No birth record nor is she in the 1901 or 1911 censuses with that family, whereas Madeline is.

The Margaret Bate born Runcorn 1892 is the daughter of John Bate and Margaret Elizabeth Webster. She is on WT as Bate-227.

I was going to say, well at least we know who Possible John Dixon married, per Ancestry tree.  But I can't find her either.

Nearest I can see is Maggie Bate b 1890 Runcorn to Alexander and Margaret (Acton) Bate.
That is the family in the Ancestry tree.  But the mother's maiden name was Acton and she was Acton when she married Alexander Bate.

No idea where Reeder is coming from.

The middle names in the Ancestry tree are spurious.
