An even more basic question: Who was he? It's not credible that Zachariah, Abijah, Peter are all names for the same man.

Have you looked in the Great Migration books?

Looking at the Great Migration database at NEHGS, there was a Zachariah who would have been born in 1595 give or take. He had a wife Sarah. This Zachariah arrived in 1635 on the Truelove. I found no trace of an Abijah or Peter. Also, there wasn't any Whitman listed as dying in 1623 in Massachusetts Bay..

Also, ALL of the Ancestry source links are broken so can't be examined. I think a lot more work needs to be done.

I looked for the Farnham genealogy (History of the Descendants of John Whitman of Weymouth) that is referenced, although not by title. The profiles   seem to have nothing to do with that genealogy and others have flagged them as probably fictitious. The brothers are definitely odd and not anything like Farnham came up with. Also, Zachariah in Farnham is the same as the one in The Great Migration so the birth date is wrong and would be an earlier generation. The genealogy is at Archives.org at https://archive.org/details/historyofdescend01farn

I think this whole family needs extensive work to bring it out of fiction.
