Looking for sources for Heinrich Heuer

Question

My mother's records spell the last name as "Heurer." I created a profile with the info I have, which isn't much. I think he was born in Germany, but no ideas where in Germany.

I searched the Missouri Digital Heritage, but he doesn't show up under either spelling (his daughter doesn't either).

The FamilySearch immigration records show many Heinrich Heuers. If you can identify the correct record, perhaps it will have a clue.

Edit: taking a look at Ancestry’s immigration would be worthwhile as well. If you don’t have a subscription, your local public library might and LDS Family History Center will have access to Ancestry.com.

I'm not sure where to find immigration records within Family Search. I haven't used that option yet and it seems well hidden.

I have looked at other sites with passenger lists. Some, like Castle Garden, have records of who came in through New York. My ancestors came to Missouri, so probably entered through New Orleans.

After you enter the name, scroll down just a bit to where it says "Type." Open the link, and select immigration and naturalization. That is all that is necessary.

If you would like to search a specific record group, say New York passenger lists, open the link for US records, scroll through the list for NY passenger lists, select it, enter the name, click on search.

In Family Search do a search via U.S. Census records.  For example, U.S. Census - State Missouri - Put your year in such as 1860, 1870, 1880 etc...

Sometimes if you can't find the main person you're looking for, a search will come up if you put in another name such as child's name.

I found a lot of information about my past relatives, their children etc...just by doing a U.S. Census search.

One more suggestion. Try Steve Morse’ one step webpages. They might search things not available at Family Search. I believe their emphasis is New York arrival.

Try the following last names:  

Heuer
Hener
Hever

My Grandparents were listed as Hener in one of the U.S. Census records because whoever identified the names in writing thought the 'u' was an 'n'.

Also, try searching for 'Henry' instead of Heinrich.  Majority of the time when immigrants came to the States their names were changed to reflect basically American/English language.  Ex: Friederic aka Frederich became Frederick, Wilhelm became William etc...

I did a search for Heinrich Heuer on Ancestry and found under the "Firman Family Tree a:
Heinrich "Henry" Heuer birthdate 1823
Spouse: Augusta "Justina" Koster
with Death Location being 'Missouri'

There are a lot of Heinrich Heuer and this one was just 1 of 919.
