I'm finding info on his Dad, no luck on William so far.

I have lots of information on Albert! I have none for William also my other Uncle Leo J Martel born 1903 was living in Winthrop with his Wife Ruth. In the 1930 Census along with Winthrop he was also listed at Fort Banks. No information after 1930 Census.

Are you sure the William is William Martel? It was transcribed that way, but there appears to be the surname Mellen? associated with 7 month old William.

The 1930 Census shows him as William Martel along with my Uncle Albert. The rest in the home are Sweeny's. I have tried lots of web sites and can not get any info on William he might have been born in 1929.

Albert passed away in 1959 at Jacques Cartier Barracks in Montreal South, no info on Burial
I looked at that image (https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=6224&h=15215486&tid=&pid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=UUZ303&_phstart=successSource) and it reads Mellen to me. Don't trust the transcription, look at the image. Anyway, if 7 months old in April of 1920, he would have been born in 1929. To say this is William Martel would need additional information to support that conclusion. Not saying it isn't, but you would need to prove it. In addition to the surname associated with young William, typically, but not always, parents get listed before their children but this is the other way around.

Could he have been born illegitimate and used a mother's maiden name at that point but later went by Martel?
The 1930 Census that I reviewed does not show Mellon only Martel &  Sweeny's. It also shows my other Uncle Leo J Martel and his wife Ruth also living in Winthrop, Suffolk.

I can not access your info as I do not have an account. What I briefly saw I believe showed a Taylor.

Not much else I can do.

Here's a link to the image at FamilySearch:  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9R74-9K4C?i=15&cc=1810731

It definitely looks like Mellen, William, just above Martel, Albert M.  FamilySearch accounts are free, and highly recommended if you don't already have one.

Another piece of info. The line for your uncle Albert is crossed out. He does appear on a different census page. There is an annotation that he is 'taken at Fort Banks'.

Where did you look at the 1930 census?
An unrelated question. Do you have Martel relatives in Worcester County? I have Martel 'cousins' in that area. They share my Caplette ancestry.
I just went on Familysearch and it shows John Sweeney 25,Mary Sweeney 33,Mary Sweeney 12, Agnes Sweeney 11, William Martel 0 USA, Albert MacDonald 34. I do not see a Mellon
Look at the image!
I believe that he was working as a Cook at Fort Banks. My other Uncle Leo J Martel was also shown at Fort Banks as well as Suffolk. Originally I was sent the 1930 Census through one of the US French websites.

I can not locate Leo J Martel anywhere after 1930. My Father and his mother moved to Saskatchewan, Canada after a Divorce. I never met or had any information on my Fathers siblings or family and he passed at age 45.

I live in Alberta, Canada.
I could have relatives in the eastern States as my grandfather Zenon immigrated into New Hampshire with his siblings Brothers & Sisters). His obit in 1950 showed a Charles Martel.

The transcription says Martel but that is not what the image says. Someone making the transcription made an assumption and "corrected" what they saw. It is possible that the original copy of the census said something different but its whereabouts would need to be fdetermined and documented. The official copies sent to Washington were transcribed from the enumerators master copy. Those originals sometimes still exist.

I'll have to spend some time on my Martel cousins.  I had their connection wrong. They are connected in my LaFlash/LaFleche line and were mostly in Rhode Island.

Looking at that page again, Irving Streeter and Leo Joseph Martel are both at Fort Banks. Written in here and then crossed out and Head moved to the wife's line. Leo's family is on Taylor Street as are the Sweeney's. Not sure if that helps or not but does give some more info to fill in the gaps.
