Not strictly WikiTree but Gedmatch

I uploaded raw DNA and exported the wikitree family tree and uploaded that,

However I wasnt prompted to enter a GedMatchID... and i cant find any reference to it on the Gedmatch Site.

ive seen suggestions that it pertains to the Kit Number,, but why would our instructions not say Kit Number

TIA, Rob

Gedmatch assigns an ID number to each DNA test that you upload.  If you upload a test from ancestryDNA for your mom, and one from FTDNA for you, your mom's test will have a Gedmatch ID # that begins with 'A' while yours will have a Gedmatch ID # that begins with a 'T'.

As an aside, it can be helpful when you look at your matches on Gedmatch to know where the person you are matching tested.  When I see my mom matches someone with a Gedmatch ID beginning with an 'A', I go to her test on ancestryDNA and try to locate that match to see if they perhaps have a tree.  Ditto with FTDNA and 23andMe.

Dear smart and patient Wikitree-ers,

I've read the posts about where to find my GEDmatch ID number, but I'm still not finding it -- and wondering if anybody can help. When I go to my GEDmatch page, I see 3 different numbers:

  1. "User Profile" - 7 digits (no letters)
  2. "Your DNA resources" (I believe this is my kit number) - 2 letters + 7 digits (I took an Ancestry DNA test, but the letters are 'UY')
  3. " Your Family Trees (Also known as GEDComs)" - 7 digits (no letters)

Are any of these my GEDmatch ID? Have they changed their pattern of using an 'A' for an Ancestry test? Or is there something else I need to do?

Many thanks!

Susanne

The section "Your DNA Resources" has any kits that you have uploaded and managed.  The number at the left is your Gedmatch ID number.  They used to start with an 'A' if it was from an ancestry download, but that's no longer true.  Likely your UY # is your ID #.

After you log in to gedmatch using your e-mail address you will see your gedmatch kit number on the left hand panel. Usually a letter followed by 6 digits, where the letter denotes the testing company. Longer if you are using gedmatch genesis.
