Searching for sources for father of Mortimer Hughey

+3 votes
I'm trying to make a leap to the father of Mortimer Hughey. According to my mother's records his first name is John. I know no other facts about him. I saw a hint that suggested John died about the time Mortimer was born, so they don't appear in a census together. I think the only source to connect them would be a birth certificate, but those seem to be in short supply in 1840s Pittsburgh. Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

I found a Civil War pension record here:, but aside from this I believe T's response is the best. Good luck!

Alas, every time I try your link Family Search has given me the message that it can't display the pages due to technical difficulties and to try again later. I've done the try again at least three times.
