If a grandson had the same surname as the grandfather, then most likely the father of said grandchild was a son, not a daughter.  Exceptions would be that a daughter married a man with the same surname as her maiden name.  Or the grandson was born out of wedlock and carried his mother's maiden name as his surname. 

Can you post an image of the exact will? Or at least a transcription of it so we can see the full context ?
