No baptism easily visible. If you buy his marriage certificate that will give you the name of his father. You will then be able to search for potential marriages for his parents.

Their probable marriage was in the last quarter of 1863.

No proof but John, b Peasenhall c 1834 (his age changes each census) could be the illegitimate son of Sally Shelley  (or the son of an as yet unknown  brother  or sister of hers.)

Thanks Helen, yes I had the Benjamin line originally, but it leads to a brick wall, so I have retraced my steps and double checking each generation, taking particular care over the sources, and where they come from. Obviously, with a famous surname like Shelley, there has been considerable temptation to compile false records and fake genealogies, hence my cautious approach.
Hi, it's good to double check, we all make assumptions and its really hard to spot them.

I've just come across the Bloomfield/Blomfield/Blumfield Link

In the 1881 census for Tannington Suffolk

William Blomfield, 77 gardener Framlingham]

Harriett Blomfiekd wife 58 Ubbeston

Harrett Blomfield granddaughter 16

Eliza Shelly granddaughter 14 Peasenhall

Birth registration: SHELLEY, ELIZA            HART   GRO Reference: 1866  M Quarter in BLYTHING  Volume 04A  Page 710

Marriage registration:

Name:        Harriet Hart        1851 Oct-Nov-Dec

Registration district:        Blything

Inferred County:        Suffolk

Volume:        13 Page:        1023

Records on Page:

William Blumfield

Harriet Hart

(no connection in this generation to Percy. John's grandparents were farmers but 50 acres is a bare subsistence living so not moving in the same circles )
