Name change Mealey <-> Melia?

I'm tracing a cousin's line and found what looks to be some fluidity in last name back and forth between Mealey and Melia. This is in England in mid to late 1800's. Has anyone else seen this? Or are these actually separate lines? Thanks

I did a quick Google search, and I came across a few mentions of an Irish surname which appears to be read as both Mealey and Melia:

Hopefully this helps somewhat? Good luck!
