I have been unable to locate either 1870 or 1890 Federal Census for Dade, Missouri for Raleigh Mitchell. Do they not exist or can someone help me locate them. His family was in Arcola, Dade, Missouri in 1870, one of his sons was born there and in the 1880 fed census He was  in Sac,Dade county, Missouri as several of his children died, and siblings as well. In 1891 he received his pension in the State of Missouri. Did those Census's exist, what might have happened to them if not, or am I just not looking in the right places?

Lisa,

Most of the 1890 census was destroyed. You can read about it here:

https://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/1996/spring/1890-census-1.html

The 1870 census is indexed by state only. You need to search for the census, then drill down to the state, then county. It looks like Arcola was too small a place for a seperate entry. What town or village is it near? I think David’s link will get you to Dade county census pages.
