Help finding information to create the profiles of the parents of John Alfred Lynch

Question

Hello!

I am looking for sources that help connect John Alfred Lynch to his parents, and then some! Ultimately I would like to create the profiles for his parents, but currently, I am uncertain if I have the correct information (as this was/is a very common name!).

I have input a number of sources for this profile, however, I can not find any information which further validates his parents. I do see a marriage record that I am fairly certain is the correct one (Thomas Lynch and Caroline Arcand) but when I start researching them I can not find any evidence of them beyond this one record.

Answer 1

A marriage entry is a start. That places John Alfred Lynch in a specific place at a specific time. Work outwards from there- baptisms, Cencus records, children, obituary.

Lynch is the surname of one of the “Tribes of Galway”. However you don’t say if that is where this marriage occurred. Some branches of the Lynch family were prosperous and better documented.

If you know any male Lynch descendants of John Alfred Lynch, willing to provide a Y-DNA sample, that would be another avenue.

The Manitoba Historical Society is an interesting resource if you have Manitoba family.  In particular I found the section on notables of interest.

The Hudson Bay Company archives are now held by Manitoba and could be a useful resource for this research.  Many HBC employees settled in Canada after their contracts were up, in areas like Selkirk's Red River settlement.
