I wanted to share this family photo of my great-grandmother Amy Keay with the community. Amy was about 25 years old in this photo. A member of a prominent family in Everett Washington, she rode side-saddle on her horse to go downtown for some shopping.

Location: Everett Washington. Date: 1890.

Amy is a pretty young woman. I love clothes from another era. She is dressed so beautiful. The modest hat and the lace kerchief in her pocket (Not everyone could afford lace)  and her beautiful dress. She does not look nervous on the horse. I imagine she has sat on one before. The mare is a good looking horse. Healthy, strong for it's size and well exercised. Small hind quarters, probably a smaller horse for a pretty woman. Whoever the women are that received her DNA are pretty lucky and just as beautiful.

You are sure right about that Jerry. Here is a photo of Amy's granddaughter (my mom) Alexandria Keay on her wedding day. My mom was a beauty, just like her grandmother.

I love not only the picture of your g-grandmother, but also the other details in the picture. The wooden sidewalks are so perfectly clear in this picture, I can picture myself walking on them.

I love the background they chose when they took this picture.  The trees rising up from behind the posts and the stairs that are clearly seen between the two.

Last, but certainly not least, your g-grandmother's outfit. Fit for a queen. Her box hat, and dress, complete with the beautiful white lace in her pocket.

There is no doubt in my mind that she is a prominent member of society just looking at all of the wonderful details in this beautiful picture.

Thank you for sharing.

BART, gotta love that hat! And doesn’t the horse seem to dwarf Any? I guess this is like dressing up for a ride in a convertible. Cool pic! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Pip you are a star in your own right.
