As a Metis person, I'm thinking we need a separate tag from the one used by the Aboriginal people of North America. We know from history the Metis that were in the US were just wrapped up as native people and put on the reserves with their native brothers. However, that was not the case with the Canadian Metis. They were badly treated by the white settlers and in most cases had their rights trampled on and they were sent into hiding. This changed in 2016 with the results of the Daniels case. "On Apr. 14, 2016, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the Métis are recognized as “Indians” under Section 91(24) of the Constitution Act of 1867, as a result of the Daniels vs. Canada case. The Métis are now included as one of the three Indigenous groups recognized as “Indians” under the Constitution Act of 1867, along with First Nations and Inuit. As a result of the ruling, the federal government is now responsible for negotiating with the Métis as a nation." So being included in the act and found to be aboriginal there, in my opinion, should be a separate tag and the Metis flag would be appropriate. Your thoughts.
