I am working on a free-space page for Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia.

There is a category: Georgia Lunatic Asylum, Milledgeville, Georgia.  It links to the Wikipedia page.  I'm not sure if the page I'm working on should be linked to the existing one or if I should just leave it linked to my Grandmother who spent 40 years of her life there.

I found my great grandmother's first cousin in there for the 1940 census.  But I find the use of Lunatic Asylum a bit archaic (more from when it opened in the 1840s and not in the 20th century).  So I didn't apply the category to the profile.

Once upon a time I delivered for a pharmacy to a State Hospital and I got to know quite a few of the patients that were always hanging around the front of the place.  They had a pretty good life really.  Hang-out in your room, come down for meals and walk-around the grounds amongst other activities.  They couldn't leave. (Probably acted naughty when they had the chance).  It was similar to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but a bit more relaxed.

It's not that difficult in the USA to get someone "put away".  A bit of unacceptable behavior and a good lawyer can make that happen.  In Spain it's almost impossible to do that to someone unless they agree.

I do realize there were probably wings and buildings with the extreme cases.  Must have been padded cells and lock-up and no telling what else going on.

My father used to say only poor people are crazy.  The same person with money is eccentric.  :D

You should add the category to the free-space page.
