One Source, Many People, Missing Profiles? New Category!

Do you know about the new category for times when you add a source which names other people who don't have profiles? The code for it is [[Category:Needs Profiles Created]]. This new category will help Connectors Project members with their work. It alerts them that there are sources on a profile for people who don't currently have profiles. When those profiles are created, it could be the relationship which connects that branch to the world-wide tree.

Please consider adding it when appropriate. All you have to do is paste [[Category:Needs Profiles Created]] as the first line in the edit box. The category will be removed after someone creates all the new profiles.

Sprinters and Sourcerers, your participation would really be helpful!

For discussion on the need for this category and its implementation, see "We really need a new "Something" for profiles with info for more profiles

WoW. I really started something.

Oddly enough, this was started by a Data Doctor and the only way I see it is by a link on my original post.

Do the sourcerers know about the section I put on the Wikitree Spreadsheet for UNSOURCED PROFILES?

LOL I see what you did there

As far as the spreadsheet goes, I don't know if the Sprinters use it or not. I know that some of the participants source by location but I don't. During the Sprints, I work orphaned profiles for a specific surname. I can see it being really useful during the Source-A-Thon when I tend to work by location.
It's just the unsourced links put into a spreadsheet. If it can help, feel free to use it. But I wouldn't know when to clear any text anyone puts in the blank areas to help track what people were doing. Sort of like we do with the weekly Data Doctor challenge. The sprints and monthly source links are already there.
hmm, now this is going to get complicated.  I have been doing bios on older profiles extensively lately, and filling in data on children as much as possible, as well as parents etc.  They are not necessarily in my watchlist.  I think you may find this new category getting overloaded very soon.
We want the category overloaded! The more profiles in the category, the more likely it is that somebody will find the connection they need to connect and unconnected branch.
well this is super awesome - now I am going to use this when I have a source open but I am too tired to enter all those children!
Danielle, that is exactly what the category is for. When someone has a bunch of info that can be used to make other profiles but doesn't get distracted by actually making all those profiles.
oh lord, now I have to figure out all the ones I've done to tag them.  Think I'll skip that for now and just stick it on future ones I work on.

I believe a thread was created to do with potentially having a category like this some time ago; I hope those people find this post!

They should, Amy. I added a link to this thread as a comment to the first post in the original thread. Thanks for the memory trigger; I've added a link to that thread in my post.

Thank you for posting the info on this. There are a number of unconnected profiles I've worked on that still have some people that I haven't done profiles for that could use this.

This is great. I know that sourcing I find many of these.

Is it applicable in the following case? I have set my gg grandfather aside for the moment, having added just a few of his children, and including information in the research notes that will lead to sources for his parents and grandparents. He connects to the tree via me, but not via his Burk, Haire, and Green ancestors.

Absolutely, Kay. You could add a research note that tells which sources have which surnames if it isn’t obvious looking at them
Research notes point to one document, which everyone wishes they could find in their family. She wrote a family genealogy and included sources—land records, town records, Rev war pension, images for marriages, etc., even justification how he could not be related to Edmund Burke, the famous English statesman. What a find!

I just added this to the following profile for Sprague-4181

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Sprague-4181&action=edit

I am attempting to connect this family group to the main tree  I pasted an obit with a bunch of descendants which some are in the census links provided  I was going to go back in time to try And connect them but I haven’t found a path yet to connect them  I only get a couple family members entered a day as I try to complete as many sources as possible on each one

Wonderful! As this one grows, it would be handy to have it broken down by country (like the unsourced profiles categories).

I actually thought of that and wanted something set up like the unsourced template. I was told no. So I'm happy we got as much as we got because quite a few saw no need for anything. I was looking for something like {profileseed|Maine} but that seemed totally ridiculous. cool

Great Idea which will help hake Wikitree better by providing another way that can make it easier for people can contribute and find potential connections.

Well done to all that helped create this option.
