What to do with new bad GEDCOM Ancestry link:

I'm not possessive of the profiles I manage.  I have a profile with lots of good sources.  Someone just added their ancestry werid stuff from GEDComimport and the ancestry link is no good (I have a subscription so if it was good I'd see it)

Can I take it off?  It looks like it's a new person - is there a nice way I can tell her why I removed it?  Should I just let it be? ( I REALLY don't want to leave a bad link on it)

Yes if the Ancestry link is bad you can remove the link and changes to the profile. I would in a polite way by personal message or comment on the person's profile explaining that the changes and link did not work or show the information the changes indicated for the profile.

Here is a copy of a message I use about sources and links to paid genealogy site, you can edit it into your own words.

Links to sources on paid subscription sites such as Ancestry, FindMyPast, and MyHeritage can be frustrating for WikiTree members and visitors without access to these sites. We recommend searching for a freely available copy of the source document on sites such as FamilySearch, USGenWeb, Archive.org, and HathiTrust. If the source record is only available to paid subscribers, when providing the URL please also extract as much information as possible, such as relevant names, dates, and the source of the original data. Providing the source as an inline reference within the biography also helps to clarify which biographical facts are supported by the source citation.

Ok I did just that and wrote a nice note to her saying pretty much what you did and that if she has some info from Ancestry that's not on the profile and not available anywhere else I'll be glad to add it if we have a working link.
Thank you, Joelle, for the star and glad I could be of help.
I can never find the right words - thanks for adding the sample letter David!
Your welcome, E Childs!

Do you mean an incorrect source was added to profile?  I guess I would leave the source but mark it as conflicting with another source.  Be sure to include the correct source.

Alternatively, you can ask the WikiTreer if she has more information because the addition seems to conflict with what you have documented. If you have the time, you can create a new profile for person her source really relates to.

It was to a link on Ancestery that doesn’t exist.
