Canterbury, CT Baptist Church records

+6 votes
I'm wondering if there are any records from a Baptist church in Canterbury, CT (Windham county) from about the first half of the 18th century. People from this faith would have been considered non-conformists and may not have their vital statistics recorded in the usual Congregational records. Are there any other places to look for these records?

I don't know where to find those records, but here are some other places to look:

The Barbour Collection of Connecticut Vital Records includes a volume of vital records for Canterbury. The Canterbury records don't indicate the original source of each record, so I can't tell what churches are included. Births are typically recorded as "b" (not "bp."), apparently indicating that they are births and not church records of baptisms.

I access the Barbour Collection at . I think the Canterbury records are also on and I think the Windham County GenWeb folks may have transcribed these records and posted them on their website. ADDED: Yes -- the Barbour Collection records for Canterbury are available at -- look under Canterbury.

Also consider the possibility that the family's church or records are in another town. My ancestors who lived in Canterbury seem to have had some life events recorded in nearby towns like Plainfield.
