What family memories are you making this summer? Family reunions? A family trip somewhere? A staycation of fun?

I went up to Iowa a couple of weeks ago for my grandmother's brother's funeral.  I'd only met him once, back in November, and hadn't really met any of her other family.  (My grandparents moved down here in the 40s and never went back much.)  Anyway, it was so wonderful to meet all of her nieces and nephews and their families. They couldn't have been nicer!  They took me to see the farmhouse she grew up in which was a special treat.

Well, make whatever you will of it, I broke both bones in my left leg on my deceased dad's birthday - June 13th. I had surgery on June 25th, and I have been laid up since.

I have been making good use of my time. I joined WikiTree at the end of May, and I am adding my family, one profile at a time to increase our family tree.

I have met so many relatives here. 

I haven't traveled any further than my recliner, but I feel like I have gone miles. Everyone here has been super nice to me. I have gotten such wonderful compliments, helpful hints, and really feel like I have extended my family.

So, my family memories for 2018 will be of every single one of you that have crossed my path this year.

My father's brother (the only remaining sibling) is turning 96 this August and also celebrating his 67th wedding anniversary.  My cousins are coming from Ontario to Drumheller for it.  Drumheller is famous for digging up dinosaur bones, so there must be some kind of metaphor there!  I'm taking nice little family trees for all the cousins and also will be talking about how DNA testing has helped confirm aspects of the family tree.  (Hopefully my brother's Y-DNA test results will be back by then.)  I will have a few Ancestry kits with me in case any of the relatives wants to contribute to further research!

That is fantastic! Be sure to take lots of pictures. We had a similar gathering for my aunt’s 90th about 10 years ago. All 8 of her children, most grandchildren and great grandchildren and all her nieces and nephews were there, about 90 of us. It is something you will remember for a long time.

My brother and his family have been here for a week and will be staying here for another week. So far we went out on the boat and went to a go-kart/mini golf place. We also got lobster rolls and some candy up in Maine. I also taught the kids a bit about their heritage. So far so good. =) They are five and eight. Gotta start 'em young, right?

Just recently hosted the Turner Family Reunion which began in 2004 after my Dad had DNA done and matched with Turner cousins in AL. My dad passed away in 2010, but we still have the Reunion in his memory. We had Turner cousins there from LA, AL, GA, TN, and all over Mississippi. youngest was 2 years old and  oldest was 90 years old.  Makin Memories!!

We always come away feeling loved and blessed.!

We traveled from Mississippi to Maryland with our youngest grandson to visit my 91 year old Mom. She was trilled to see him, and us. He really liked staying with his granaunt, who lives in a mid-18th century barn.

My mom is 85, and I thank God every night that she is still with us.

I would love to the 18th century barn.  That is right down my alley.

My grandmother died in 1936 when my father was 15 years old. I had never seen a picture of her. I also have a 1st cousin who had been named in memory of grandma, but she had never seen a picture of the woman she was named for. Through a DNA test, I was matched this summer with a 2nd cousin we knew nothing about. We visited and shared stories and photos. Her grandmother and mine were sisters. She had some photos of my grandma!!! It was especially meaningful for the cousin who was named for grandma 81 years ago and saw her image for the first time.
