what is the gedmatch

I have just received my DNA test result but was wondering what I put into the gedmatch box, would it be my kit number or something else

That depends on whether you have uploaded the results to gedmatch. If you have transferred the results to gedmatch then you should use the gedmatch kit number that was assigned to you when you did the upload. If you have not uploaded to gedmatch yet, then you leave the gedatch box empty and just add information about which company you tested with and answer any questions it asks you about the name or number of the kit

Thank you Lynda I shall leave it as it is then although it has come up with names on myheritage just have to wait and see what can be found now as added information to my profile

GEDmatch is free and will allow you added (to upload your MyHeritageDNA results) to find relatives who have tested with AncestryDNA, 23andMe (prior to Aug 2017), and Family Tree DNA’s Family Finder.  You can work with those relatives to confirm each of the parent / child relationships on each of those ancestral lines back to the shared ancestors you share with those relatives.
