I have a few I would like to request. I searched and can't seem to find any for these (unless I'm being an idiot about them). There are tons of line from each of them and I know they are very not popular.

Ager: Eager, Agar, Egger

Engleys : Ingles, Inglis, English

Brucklacker: Brucklacher

On a side note: do we have one for Campbell's ? Specifically one for those from Pennsylvania and Virginia. These two lines seem to have a bad habit of being intertwined and are not related.

I am studying the surname Cady.  I am sorry that I cannot find anywhere to click on "answer".  I used the "comment" instead. If you can direct me how to follow the instructions I would like to do so .

You will not find 'answer', because this is a closed thread, which means the ability to 'answer' has been removed.

Please repost on the current thread:

Duh.

Thanks!

when I click the Helderman Name study tag in my followed tags it says nobody has created a Helderman Name Study however, when I search the name Helderman the Name study appears in the box along with the Helderman project. Can you tell me what the problem is?

If possible would I be able to set up a project for Larcombe, Reynolds, Treloar, Doak, Hooker, and Woldseth please.
by Damian Larcombe G2G Crew (470 points)

Hello Damian

Did you mean you wanted to start six One Name Studies?

And in only a couple of days, you will have filled the third requirement (of being here 30 days). smiley As a matter of fact I would strongly recommend that you start with ONE One Name Study, while you become more comfortable with the way WikiTree works.

See the Project page:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies

and the FAQ page:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:One_Name_Studies_FAQ_Page

Yes please. I am related to these six names and I’m adding people from these name studies. In finding that you didn’t have a name study for any of them I thought I would help by starting them. These are the names of my grandparents and great grandparents. Thanks heaps. Cheers Damian.

Please reconsider doing one or two Name Studies to start off with, rather than six in one go.  If you just wanted to see who else has those names, you can go to
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/LARCOMBE
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/REYNOLDS
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/TRELOAR
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/DOAK
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/HOOKER
https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/WOLDSETH

You may wish to note that a subproject for Treloar is in the final stages of being set up already.

Running a One Name Study is more than just collecting together all people with the same name (see above surname index pages which do the same thing).  You may wish to study migration of those people, or heraldry, or occupations.  Is this what you wish to do?  Please do not feel I am putting you down; I am just thinking of you and do not want you to become overwhelmed after a short time and then leave altogether. smiley

Hi I understand it’s a lot of work I have my mother helping with some of it. The reason I asked for the six names is these are my grandparents names and I was hoping to get past some of the brick walls I have hit in the genealogical study of these names. Would you be able to send me a link to the Treloar one when it is set up please. Thanks heaps. Cheers Damian

I created Turner Name Study in 2017 before the current system was in place. All the links to my study appear to be working correctly. Still, I have never received a One Name Studies Project Member badge.

I also received a message asking me to create "Turner Name Study" and merge it with the original "TURNER Name Study" but links appear to be working as is. If you still want the new study created please do so so I can complete the merge as requested.

Thank You
by Jennifer Turner G2G6 Mach 2 (24.1k points)

Sorry you haven't received the badge, Jennifer.  I'm sure Sarah will get right on it.

I have done the creating-and-merging necessary to get TURNER into Turner.  I sent you a message several days ago telling you this.  You also started a G2G thread on this subject:
https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/664226/could-someone-please-help-me-create-turner-name-study

and I answered it two days ago:
It's all been done! No need to go looking - I have created the Turner Name Study and merged the TURNER Name Study into it (and I sent a message to Jennifer to say so).

The reason I needed a Turner instead of a TURNER was because the search facility is case-sensitive, which means that TURNER was coming up at the beginning of the T section, instead of at the Turner place it should be.  This would mean that, if in future someone wanted to create a Turner Name Study, they would check, see there wasn't one (except there was), and merrily go ahead.

But it's all been done now. - Project Coordinator

Jennifer your badge is up now :)

Hi - I have created a Name Study page for RENOWDEN at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Renowden_Name_Study but I have since been told that it should be done by this route. I would be grateful if you could regularise this for me please.

The (most common) variants of the name are RENODEN, RENORDEN, TRENOWDEN, TRENORDEN.

The study has been registered with the Guild for probably 20 years as two separate studies (RENOWDEN & TRENOWDEN) which have since merged. Limited information has yet to be put on here (because it is a slow process and there is the dilema of keeping the information in two places at once.

I'd like to an a ONS for the WHITING name and its variants, as there doesn't seem to be one yet. This would be in line with the www.whiting-global.org study registered with the Guild of ONS with Mark Whiting. I am currently helping add my Whiting family to his project and would like to 'mirror' this on WikiTree.

Variants registered with the Guild are shown as Whitting, Weiting, Whighting, Whightinge, Whiteing, Whithting, Whitinge, Whittinge, Whyting, Witting.

I'm considering starting a one name study for LAPHAM.  There aren't many of us and we are all almost certainly related somehow.  To the best of my knowledge there are no variant spellings.  The name comes from "lapis", the latin word for 'stone' and the celtic "ham" or "heim" 'home' or 'hearth.'

I guess I'd like some advice before jumping in with both feet, although I already tend to do just that every time the name comes up in my feed!

Thank you

Hi Ross and Sarah,

I want to do another One Name for "Menzies".  They are a Scottish Clan that is in my line.  I recently, attended a clan gathering and praised WikiTree.  There is some research done by them already and they are going to provide me with census data not available online yet.  I volunteered  to get it digitized so it will be available to everyone.  I have been working on the "Holtam" One-name, and wanted to get "Menzies" in place to start on soon.  Additionally, one of the conditions of membership is submission of family tree data, so this will be quite interesting, relation to William Wallace, Rob Roy, etc.

Thanks for what you guys do!

Cheers!

Randy

Are you sure you would not rather join the Scottish Clans Project:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans

I believe Clan Menzies is looking for a sponsor.
Ros,

I can do that if you or I can set up a category "Menzies" under the Scottish Clan Project.  This will require a lot of space as there are likely to be thousands of profiles.

Randy
It is a totally separate project from this one.  Doubtless they will tell you how to do it, if they have any special rules, whatever.

The Scottish Clans Project says this about septs:

"Septs are no longer recognised and not needed on wikitree. While once used to show families affiliated with a particular Clan, they were time dependent. There was never any official list. On wikitree, as a general rule, it is more appropriate to associate a profile with the family name."

I have already created a San Soucie Surname Project page, but have been told I have done it incorrectly.  If you can fix what I have, that is great.  If I need to start over, just let me know.

Surname variants include San Soucie San Souci Sansouci Sansoucie Sansoucy Sanssoucy

Your categories are all correct now, and you have signed up to this thread correctly! smiley

Sarah: Rick needs the ONS badge and the redirects San Soucie, San Souci, Sansouci, Sansoucie, Sansoucy, and Sanssoucy

Badge is set, I am having issues getting the Project button to show up on the genealogy index pages when the surname has a space in it.  The redirect should still work, but the button isn't there.  Working on finding a fix to this problem! :)
I came across another variant that I would like to add to the San Soucie Name Study: Sans Souci

Can you please add this?

Rick
It does not appear that my ONS badge appears on my profile.  Is there something I need to do?

I would like to start a one name study with Surname variants for Yule, Yuill, Yuile etc. I have contact with Estella Pryor well known genealogist and author of books on the above of which I have copies. The surnames are scattered all over the world and the books mention their ancestors and descendants, of which I am one. I have already entered a few on WikiTree of which I am now sourcing.
by Norma Maloney G2G6 (6.9k points)
Presumably you mean a Yule Name Study?  There is already a Youle Name Study:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Youle_Name_Study
Yes but it does not ask for the Variants of the Yule, Yuill, Yuile etc.

I want to include the many Variants.

So you want a Yule Name Study? Please be specific.

Youle starts with "YO" the names that I am associated with starts with "YU" and "ZU" and their ancestors and dependants, that are scattered around the globe. I already gave a copy of a book to Debi (Magee) Hoag to list on Source for Yule, Yuill.. I have more books with the Yule's with the different variants that are scattered are around the world.

I understand all that.  What I need is a specific name for your study.  I cannot just create 'a name study'.  I need to have a specific name you are going to study so that the database/searches/indexes can use it. smiley

Okay, now I understand. Yes the Name of Yule with variants would be okay.

Sorry to take so long to answer but the power keeps going off here and my computer keeps freezing.

I have created your Yule Name Study with its companion category page:
