I am looking for information on the GILLILAND family of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and their ancestors.  In particular:

  • Rebecca GILLILAND (1823-1870)
  • Born in Shavers Creek, HUNTINGDON COUNTY, PA
  • Wife of Isaac C. Gorsuch (1818-1895), born in Shade Gap, Huntingdon County, PA, who was the son of Elijah K. Gorsuch and Mary D. Hooper

Burial and grave markers for Isaac and Rebecca at Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek, Huntingdon County, PA

The names of the 13 children of Isaac C. Gorsuch and Rebecca G. Gilliland can be provided.

I have Death Certificates for the following 3 children:

  1. Martha (Gorsuch) Cozzens (February 20, 1856 - May 17, 1932), born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania
  2. Isaac Newton (August 24, 1861 - March 8, 1952) born in Ardenheim, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania
  3. Emma  (Gorsuch) Witwer (July 7, 1869- November 20, 1947), born in Pennsylvania

I also have Birth and Marriage certificates for a granddaughter; Rebecca Gilliland (Gorsuch) Foose (May 19, 1898 - ), born in Brady Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania; died in York, Pennsylvania.

Note that Gilliland is pronounced "gillan" and is frequently misspelled in records as Gilleland, Gilland, and Gilan.

I have no answers for you because I'm asking questions too. I've recently got a clue to a link in Huntingdon County for John Gilliland/Gilleland.  Says he died and was buried their but I'm thinking he's buried in Indiana.   Trying to find his connection to Huntingdon County. He would be about the right age to be Rebecca's grandfather. I'm doing my best to learn to use Wikitree. I've always mainly used Ancestry.com but trying to branch out.

Wondering if we could check dna on gedmatch and see if there are matches in common with John Gilliland and Rebecca.  I don't know exactly how to do it. Just a thought.
