My GGGrandfather was from Germany and I can't find out anything about him before he came to the US.  All I know is that he was born in or around Hamburg.  His name was George Miller, which could mean it could have Georg Mueller or any combination.

He was born between 1824 and 1830.  He died in 1891 in Doddridge County, WV.  Per Civil War draft records, he was born in 1830.

My great-great grandfather, John Miller, came to the USA, from Germany.  He was supposedly born around 1827, and was possibly in the German Merchant Marines.  He settled in/around Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and married a Susan Raisen, supposedly born in Norristown, PA.  Their son, John Elwood Miller, was born in 1849; but in 1860, John Elwood was living with William and Sarah Jones in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, PA; seeming to indicate that John and Susan Miller had died.

do you have any information on John's parents or other family in Germany?

thanks for the reply!  I'm determined to find out more about my GGgrandfather!
Unfortunately, I don't.  I don't even have any information regarding John and Susan's deaths.  I only know their names via their son's and daughter's death certificates, and a reference in a book on Westmoreland County history.
oh well-thanks though

I'm going to Hamburg Germany in December and see if any birth certificates or anything exists for him

I also have little on Germany, but that is my next section to work on. My 2nd maternal great grandfather was named George Marion Miller and was born in Cameron, MO, in what is now Clinton Cty. I have 3 generations back, but records stop at our border.

I tried to log in on the German page for the site that shall remain nameless.  It kicked me back to the US page.
