I want to create several categories on the profile of Charles Clark McLaurin. (McLaurin-412).  Categories:  Flea Hill, Cumberland County, North Carolina, Fayetteville, Cumberland County, Salem Methodist Church Cemetary, Duncan McLaurin Family Cemetery.  Yes, I have read the directions.  But I'm still confused.  Can anyone help?

I am not sure exactly what you want to create because you used all commas, but I can still explain the process.

These already exist:

* Cumberland County, North Carolina

* Fayetteville, North Carolina (note that for towns or cities, the county is not normally used)

To create the others, simply add them above the == Biography ==

[[Category:Flea Hill, North Carolina]] (also note that now they don't want any spaces between the ":" and the town.)

When you save the profile, the category will appear in RED.  That means that it needs to be created.  But I guess you know this already.  To create it, simply click on the red link and you will be taken to a temporary category page.  It is important that you link to the next larger category in the hierarchy.  Wait, what did I just say?  At the top of the temporary category page link to :

[[Category:Cumberland County, North Carolina]] by typing it in.  Then save page.  Hopefully the Cumberland County is in blue and not red.  If it were red, you would just need to link to the next higher category in the hierarchy.  But I think you can take it from here...If not, just ask again and maybe somebody can explain it better than I did.

For the cemeteries, I usually search for them first, because I have found that categories have been created already, but with slightly different spelling or punctuation, or even towns.

To search, go to the upper right and under the find tab click "categories."  then cemeteries, north american, etc. until you get to your county/state combo.  Cemeteries normally are linked to the city/state and the county cemeteries categories.
