Why does {{One Name Study| name = Pistorius | category = Pistorius Name Study}} bring up a picture?

+3 votes
When I first started working with one name categories I used the following

{{One Name Study| name = Pistorius | category = Pistorius Name Study}}

which I copied from someone's suggestion, and this brings up a little tree picture with the Pistorius name. Clicking on this brings one to a page called Pistorius Name Study with a Surname/Tag: Pistorius. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Pistorius_Name_Study

From this page one needs to again choose Pistorius Name Study to access the list of names.

If I use the new category button and choose Pistorius, this takes one straight to the list of names. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Pistorius_Name_Study

I get very mixed up with groups/categories etc and I think I may be going about this the wrong way. Do I need both these pages. And I don't know where I would write any information on the Pistorius Name. Please could someone help.

In essence, you are working with two tools:

  • The template/profile sticker to notate and link to the name study
  • The category to group the profiles in that name study

The ONS Profile Sticker which you are using (that places a little sticker on the profile) is used to link the profile to the main Project (free space) page about that study, which also links you to the applicable name study category - This is the expected behaviour.

The other part is the Categories itself, which can be used in any fashion to group your profiles according to the purpose of the name study. For example, all of the profiles could be linked to the main Pistorius Name Study, or they could be further divided into regional name study categories.
