It sounds like a variant of the name Jamila, which is an Arabic name, and the feminine form of the name Jamil. I'm not sure if this is actually the source of it or not, but it's something to go with until a more accurate answer pops up.

I have never seen that name before, but my immediate reaction would be to look and see if her father might be a James.
