Hands up if you were ever a Boy Scout, Girl Guide, Girl Scout, Cub or Brownie

The Scout Association is one of the most far-reaching international organisations ever dreamed of. No matter your race, colour, creed, nationality or infirmity you can be a member. (With a couple of restrictions based on the political situation where you live). Given this it is surprisingly little noticed here on Wikitree. Only a handful of profiles and no international structure at all. Whether it was a good or a trivial experience I bet a high proportion of us were members at one time or another. I'd love there to be a project though I don't have the time (some excuse). Surely there's an enthusiast here somewhere who'd be interested. Ever been in a Gang Show?

You’re killing me! Hahahaha!
You do know I spent 10 days in jail February 2017 for tearing the driver door off a dude's car?
I was a Brownie, then flew up early cuz I was awesome, and then I made it through Junior rank in Girl Scouts. I have a Life Scout son (he turned 18 before he could finish his Eagle project.)

GS Camp was a blast. Oh, the memories. My friend Noel and I both dropped our flashlights down the latrine (hole in the wooden hut) and spent the rest of the week in the dark at night. One day we all rolled down this one hill in the camp. Turned out it was covered in poison ivy. I was the only one not suffering. Noel had to go home due to her blisters. It's no wonder I never camped after the age of 12.
Our hs band candy was *****. Nasty. The band candy they sell in my neck of the woods now is good stuff, made locally. I like to buy and freeze to help those band kids!
Oh look, I was censored and I spell the word with "sh" followed by "ite"!
Once in the weekend chat I said I was cooking steak with pearl onions and shiitake mushrooms and the mod buzzed off shiitake. I was like,  bugs, it's food, dude
They don't know their shiitake from shinola.
did it here too!!

I remember being cross that cubs, scouts and guides all carried a proper flag on church parades. As Brownies, all we had was a tiddly leather pennant.

(I 'flew' up to guides in 1963, google tells me it took another twenty years for brownies to be allowed to carry a flag)

I was not interested in being either a Brownie or a Guide and thankfully my mother did not insist when I said no.

I was in Cub Scouts when the BSA celebrated their 50th anniversary and went on to be a Boy Scout and an adult leader serving in many positions. I was a leader when the 100th anniversary came around so I have that patch as well as the 50th patch. I stayed with it for my son and at least one grandson but stepped away due to health problems.

I was a Brownie and then "flew up" (had forgotten that term) to Girl Scouts when I was old enough.  I stayed in and enjoyed Girl Scouts (camps, outings, activities, learning skills, etc.) until I was in High School when it wasn't "in" anymore -- especially wearing the uniform on Scout meeting days -- around 1966.  My mother was the G. S. Leader for several years and that added to the fun.  After that I became involved with the YMCA co-ed programs for a couple of years and fully enjoyed that.  Hiked down the Grand Canyon three times over Spring Break, and went to a summer camp where I learned to sail and water ski.  Oh, the fun of youth!

I was a scout and then a leader for about 15 years. In Sweden the boy scouts and girl guides merged their associations in 1960, and we were all scouts together.

The greatest Movements for Peace that the World has ever known.

In 2007, at Gilwell, I met an American, who had taken a year off in order come to help at Gilwell for the Centenary.  He related how, a couple of years before, he had been in the Military in the Middle East.  He had needed to call a meeting, at which there were a representative of the United Nations Refugee organisation, an Israeli representative and a Palestinian representative.

All four were wearing the Scout badge.  The meeting went well.
