It is a very simple app. It shows you all the ancestors from the starting profile back to where there are those that need more research to get the parents. So, when it lists your line it will to back in time to the ends of line. Doesn't matter if you are the profile manager, those people would be your ancestors and you would want to help on those as well.

With brick walls, you have to find everything that you can find. WIkiTree doesn't evaluate whether the information is correct or not, that is something you have to do. You may even have conflicting information on the same piece of data you need.

What data you will need is going to be entirely dependent on the type of brick wall you hit. Can you describe the wall you are currently fighting to tear down?  It would help us help you to have your problem stated a bit less broad. Putting your problem into the form of a specific question is a good technique to help focus your research. An example might be "who is my mother's father?"

If you are wondering how to use the Brick Wall app then you just log into it with the e-mail and address that you use for Wikitree login. It comes up with your profile id automatically filled in and gives you a list of all of your brick wall ancestors. You can change to a different Wikitree-id as the starting point if you want to.

Thank you for mentioning that app. I've never used it, or even noticed it.

Hope I'm not hi-jacking your question, but I didn't know we had a Brick Wall app. Anyone care to share an "idiot's guide" on how to find it? wink

Its under the Family Tree and Genealogy Tools tab. It lists out the end-of-line research. That is, the profiles that aren't complete (missing one or both parents).
