Is it better to start a new profile or add details of a new family member in Research or To Do Notes?

I have just started a new family and to make sure I was adding the correct wife I had to find her parents. I now have the marriage and death dates for her mother, with the sources. I am not interested in the mother at the moment but I don't want to discard the information which has taken me some time to find. That is the question - do I start a new profile? - I have LNAB, marriage name, date, and source, and death date and source. Or do I put this information at the bottom of the daughter's profile, and hope to get back to it some day?

I would create the profile if you have all that.  It will likely save someone some time in the future.  Plus, with the information fresh in your mind you're more likely to do it better.  It's OK to abandon the mother afterwards, at least she'll be there.  Good luck!

I use research notes when I'm not confident it is the same person in the sources I found.

Otherwise, it is better to start a new profile as someone else may have some other sources for the profile and could miss the fact that you have yours on the daughters profile.

For me, it is the sourced LNAB and one confident date I need to start a profile for a family member. I often add siblings with just the birth source with the thought that I will do some more work on them later.

If you do not have the time or interest to create a new profile for the parent at present then you can just make a note in the person you are working on so that it will be easier for anyone else coming along later to pick up where you left off. However, given how much information you already have I would think it would be just as quick to set it up as a profile.

This looks like the perfect example for a profile on which to use the new [[Category: Needs Profiles Created]].  If you have the time and inclination then go ahead and create the extra profiles, otherwise just slap on the category tag and someone else will be along soon to pick up where you left off.

Thank you everyone. I have decided that in the time I took to compose my message to you I could have started a new profile. So That is what I am doing
