Martha, I added birth info for Garland along with a better source. Is the Garland in the FindaGrave memorial at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/122763285 your Garland? I suggest filling in as much of the information on the more recent generations and providing good source citations for them. In order to know anything about Philamen, you will need to know where the were married or where the children were born. Information on the mother may be included in one of the birth or baptismal records. You need to give yourself a good base from which to do more research.

Also, a source that just a says "U.S.Census" is not really sufficient.

Could Philemen also been called Celimene? I found the following:

Name Gorland Peck
Event Type Marriage
Event Date 02 Jan 1868
Event Place St. Landry, Louisiana, United States
Gender Male
Spouse's Name Celemene Or Celimene Richard
Spouse's Gender Female

"Louisiana, Parish Marriages, 1837-1957," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKJH-B7WF : 13 March 2018), Gorland Peck and Celemene Or Celimene Richard, 02 Jan 1868; citing St. Landry, Louisiana, United States, various parish courthouses, Louisiana; FHL microfilm 870,695.

Look at the witnesses. Also keep in mind that this is copied and doesn't appear to be the original as signed by the witnesses.

Also, look at the 1880 census:

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GYB9-GF1?cc=1417683&wc=QZ2Q-RL9%3A1589403898%2C1589404750%2C1589404121%2C1589394907 : 24 December 2015), Louisiana > St Landry > 2nd Ward > ED 2 > image 80 of 85; citing NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Do names match family? These may not be the right family, but a lot seems to match. it may be a place to start.

Martha, don't know if you've had time to look at things, but if you compare the children in the 1880 census then do a search for Garland Peck on FamilySearch. Check the Louisiana Deaths and you will find names that match his children from the 1880 census. They use a mother's name that is the same as the marriage record.

His marriage record says his wife if Celimine/Celimene (not Philemon) Richard?
