If you have a pedigree chart or for newbies (Basketball tournament chart)
On the left side of a page write your particulars, your name, birthday date, birth location. Then to the right and above write your father's details. For your mother same column but below you write your mother's details. Write as much details as you know.
From there you work on four grandparents, this is where parents, aunts, uncles and cousin can help with information.
