One son died in France in WW1.

Enman.
ENMAN.—In fond and loving memory of our dear mother, who died March 26, 1923; also our dear brother, Private Arthur Enman, killed in action in France March 26, 1917.
Dear ones of you we are thinking,
Here, in the twilight glow,
Thinking again, dears, and yearning
For the days of long ago.
We still remember and miss you here,
And will till we meet you again.
Mother is sleeping, resting from pain,
Earth's weary sorrows cannot harm her again;
There's only a grave but it needs our care,
For our dear mother lies sleeping there.
Inserted by her loving sons and daughters, and his loving brothers and sisters.

Hi, Cherie, and welcome to Wikitree.

I looked on Ancestry and it appears that two individuals there have been conflated. One is listed as born in Alabama (like your information) and another with the same birth year as serving in the Union army out of New York. Both of the Ancestry trees I looked at had sources for Australia later in life. I dont know what to make of it. I see you do not yet have sources on James' profile. What sources are you using?

Family Search turned up no James Francis Enman with your date parameters. Any more information you can give us?

Hi,Pip and thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what you mean by source sorry only just learning how to do this. James Frances Enman I'm looking for died in Tasmania Australia 1927, I believe someone from a Family Tree site on Facebook looked up Ancestry or My Heritage to give me the birth year as Birmingham,Jefferson,Alabama,United States. I have found one James Enman that came out to Australia on The Whaling Ship ADELINE from Binghamton ,NY in 1869 I believe this to be the James I am looking for he went on to marry Matilda Dawson and had my fathers father also James Francis Enman .. Its frustrating hitting abrick wall only this far into my tree, again thank you for your help. Cherie.
Where did you find his death record and the information about the ship Adeline? Those would be useful sources to add to his profile and would provide a good starting point for trying to figure out and find evidence for where and when he originated.
Hi, I found the whaling ship records online name of ship and crew lists there , and his grave is in Sandy Bay Tasmanian well at least the records still . A family history group at the Local University in Hobart are trying to help with locating records that may have survived the years. I will add everything very soon. thank you .cherie
OK. That gets him back to 1869. Was there any age and location information on the crew list. How did you make the jump from there to Alabama rather than the other NY man that Pip mentioned.
Susan, I would suggest you remove the best answer star on this one so that others can see it is still a work in progress and not yet resolved.

I'm going to suggest to you that someone has confused Binghamton with Birmingham. The crew lists for the whaling ship, Adeline, out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. list his residence as Binghamton, NY.

Enman appears to be a very uncommon name. It may have been changed from something more difficult to pronounce or spell. You may have more luck determining his origins by obtaining a copy of his death certificate. If the person providing the information on his death certificate was a family member, then it's possible it will have his exact date of birth, place of birth, and parents' names.
Hi ,again Yes Enman does seem to be uncommon. I believe both these crew list to be him , possibly first to Tasmania then NSW 5 years later. he did come back and settle in Tasmanian to have his family, this I know from my father telling me how we came about when I was younger, sadly he has now passed and I would love to pass onto my grandchildren. I will get death cert when able . again thank you guys...cherie
Looking at the responses here, I think we can conclude that James wasn’t from Alabama. His Civil War enlistment out of New York kinda kills that. I can’t imagine someone from the Deep South traveling all the way to New York to enlist when there were so many other places to do so on the way. And immigration documents to Australia pretty much give that away, too.

BTW: “Enman May be an unusual spelling, but the variant “Inman” is not, st least in the south. There’s an Inman, SC, USA, a small town.
thank you pip, I truly think you are right now , seems New York is defiantly the one I will follow that line. again thank you.
