what is wrong with my sub-category?

+5 votes
I am trying to create a subcategory named "Brockway Township, Stearns County, Minnesota"  under the category "Stearns County, Minnesota."

I entered [[Category: Stearns County, Minnesota]] in the top line of the text.  But, on the Stearns County page it is not listed as a sub-category.  Instead it is listed at the bottom under "Profiles of the category".

You created a free-space profile at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Brockway_Township%2C_Stearns_County%2C_Minnesota

To create the category, go to that page and replace the code [[Category: Stearns County, Minnesota]] with [[Category: Brockway Township, Stearns County, Minnesota]].  Then follow the red link to the category that you named but didn't create, and add the code [[Category: Stearns County, Minnesota]] to that page.

Thanks for helping me understand how to do this.

Here is a follow-up question:

How long before the new category is available for use on a person's profile?    There seems to be a "delay", because "Brockway Township, Stearns County, Minnesota" does not pop-up as I try to enter a category.   Older categories DO pop-up.

Update:  within the hour, the new category became available for use.
Kal, If you are using the Category icon in the Biography toolbar, there will be a delay as you noticed because the system has to index the new category; however, you can use the manual link [[Category:...]] and it will work immediately.
Save your work.
