My ancestor, Catharina Sichlaer's maiden name has a very large number of variant spellings, including Sekelaer, Schislaar, Sisselaer, Schisselaar, Schislaer, and even Cheslaer. She was probably born about 1727, but the question is: could she be a descendant of Ferdinandus Van Sichlaer (who was indentured in New Amsterdam, New Netherland, in 1653, and eventually married Eva Antonise Jansen Van Salee)? If so, she was presumably born in New York. Or could she have been born in Europe (perhaps Germany or the Netherlands) and came to the colonies not long before she was married?
She was married by 1750, probably in the vicinity of Linlithgo, New York, to Pieter Bork (sometimes spelled Burck). His origins are also unknown. They also had two children christened at Germantown, New York. Very little is known about them beyond the christening records of their four known children.
