trying to find a marriage for giles/martin

+5 votes
I am a bit confused as I can not find a marriage for Florence Edith Giles to a Martin

I had found two marriage for Florence E E Giles and Florence E R Giles and have found births for both of these so I know it is not them

The reason for me asking is that her daughter Catherine Giles has her marriage as Catherine Martin or Giles

would appreciate a little help here as to me it does not make much sense unless Catherine adopted her step-father's name

I see several possibilities here.

1. Florence married a Martin somewhere along the line and Catherine was sometimes known by that name.

2. Catherine was married previously to someone named Martin.

3. Catherine was fostered/adopted by a family named Martin.

4. Her birth father's name was Martin.

I know that's not really helpful but perhaps acquiring al birth/marriage/death certificate for Catherine might provide more information.

The daughter's birth is registered as Giles, with mother's maiden name Giles. ( FreeBMD) This implies the mother was either not married, or had married another Giles. I would order the birth certificate.

birth might not give father's name although I may have to get marriage certificate instead
Yes. Good point ! I had a look for Catherine in 1939 and she is living with her husband and her in-laws at 5 Athlone Road, Bridgwater.  Albert T Came senior, born 15 March 1893, a Clay moulder in brickyard. Lily M Came b. 22 Sept 1893.  Catherin's spouse Albert T Came b.18 Nov 1914 is a Contractor's labourer. Two others listed and one blanked out: Trevor C Came, single b. 4 Dec 1920, a Soldier, and Gordon Came b. 9 May 1924, an Engineer's apprentice, also single.
Thanks Joe
