Labrador location categorization

Question

Good afternoon all!

I am trying to link some orphaned unlinked categories and have come across one in Labrador and am trying to find the proper parent category.

It is for Battle Harbour, which Wikipedia tells me is on the coast of Labrador.

Should I be categorizing it as Battle Harbour, Labrador or Battle Harbour, Newfoundland?

Also any fellow categorization folks, how do I add an unlinked orphan profile correctly just so I don't screw it up? :) I want to try to make less work for us haha.

Oh wow, how did I miss this? The category exists for dates before 1907, and it's [[Category:Battle_Harbour,_Newfoundland_Colony]]. If you need the category for a later date, let me know, and I'll create it.

If it's before 1809 (like Laurie said, below), I'll have to do a little more work ... I'm not as familiar with Lower Canada and Quebec classification.

Battle Harbour is in Labrador.  The province in which it is now located is called "Newfoundland and Labrador.".  Newfoundland is an island, Labrador is on the mainland.

It does vary based on the date.  Labrador has been part of Newfoundland since 1809. Between 1791 and 1809 it was part of Lower Canada, and from 1763-1791 it was part of the Province of Quebec. Before 1763, I would use Nouvelle France, or Acadie.  I believe someone is working on a spreadsheet, but I find Wikipedia is a good reference.

Nouvelle-France, not Acadie.  Acadie is now New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI.

I mostly concur with Laurie's summary, Labrador was part of New France as far as early colonization goes.  

Not entirely sure that is was attached to Newfoundland English colony after 1809 or not.  The territory is pretty huge, and parts are fragmented as to who owned what when.
