I wanted to share this photo of Filipina Stefancic Sojat Kopp with the community. Filipina was my wife's grandmother. A native of Lokve Croatia, she immigrated to the U.S. with her family as a child in 1902 and lived the rest of her life in Lincoln Illinois. Filipina's first husband, Joseph Sojat was killed in an accident in 1930. She remarried in 1939. As you can see by the photo, she loved to knit and crochet. Filipina died at age 91 in 1989.

Location: Lincoln Illinois. Date: 1988.

The knitting reminds me of my mom’s work. Though she doesn’t knit anymore, she still does quilts at 91.

Filipina looks elegant in her red dress offset with the long string of pearls. I bet she had some stories to tell. Thanks for sharing this photo with us, Bart.

Thanks for your wonderful comments Pip. Filipina immigrated at the age of five and entered the U.S. at Ellis Island. You have to wonder if she remembered that momentous event.

She is an adorable grandmother. Is it all crocheting? Could there be a quilt or two there? Is there anything that a grandma could not do? She might even be baking a pie or even bread. Yes bread! The aroma is filling the house. I can almost smell it.
