Profile number issues.

Question

Hi, I was just answering a G2G question about a photo upload problem and ran into one myself. The photo I uploaded has three brother, I chose the number for the first two, but the third shows the wrong number on his profile. On the drop down on the Upload page his name is also attached to someone different. I wanted Tom Phelps b.1918, and next to that name was Phelps-5571. However, when I use that number it attaches to a George Phelps showing the same profile number.

Now I've gone back and tried a fourth time and the correct person (and number) show up on the drop down.????

My error, but still not the correct number for that profile. It should be Phelps-3338. If you go to the changes on the photo, you should see how many times I had to change it to get it to the correct. profile.

I can't see the details of your edits to this image https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Phelps-3331-1 (just the list of the times when you tried to edit something) so I can't see what happened, but I have a guess. I've found that the image-editing page can be confusing. Some of my attempts to edit images have failed because I the "Save" or "Set" button that I hit was not the correct one for making the change I was trying to make. My guess is that the same thing happened to you.

Maybe I'm just confused! My immediate family are all Phelps33-something and Tom's number is different. Also, there's the fact that the first two times I adjusted the people on the photo I got George Phelps, who is not in my line. It's possible I didn't add Tom until much later so his number is higher. That seems most likely to me.

Nonetheless, it's as it should be now and I thank you all for your input.

The profile numbering, after the '-,' is strictly sequential.  Next person to create any Phelps profile, related to you or not, gets the next number.  Glad you got it sorted!
