Challenge of the Week: Clean-up as many merged profiles as possible [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

This one is a reprise of one of the most popular and valuable challenges we've done so far: cleaning up messy merged-together profiles.

Aleš has prepared a report of profiles from around the tree that were merged but never had their biographies and sources consolidated. Click here for the list.

Click here for tips on how the biographies and sources section should look. Most importantly, all profiles should have one and only one == Biography == headline and one == Sources == section with one <references /> tag directly beneath it.

After you delete the junk and consolidate any useful biographical text and sources, set the status as corrected. That will earn you a point.

The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the badge and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

All updated and ready to go. Below is a link on the G2G post explaining how to do Data Doctor Challenges with screenshots.

Been working on any not already completed. Silly me, I went to town and added sources for many of them, without realizing I didn't need to do that! blush

I see you also snagged the closed one from last time we had it. Did you review the guide and understand it? Also, all the pink text in the original post up top are helpful links.

Steven,

I'm not sure to what you're referring, "you also snagged the closed one from last time we had it."

And no I didn't see the guide until almost the end.

I have cleaned dozens of profiles in the last few days, (volunteering for the first time in a public challenge), and have referred to the "pink" suggestions when possible. Although, when I started two days ago, I wasn't all that secure with what I was doing.

I apologize if my work is not up to your standards, and would appreciate whatever constructive advice you can impart.

But, I don't appreciate the condescending snarkiness in your response to my (obviously) embarrassed comment.

I'm a bit late, but I will be doing some.
omg - 1.875 corrections (only) in the callenge of the week 811 corrected merged profiles - but the error list contains a total of 141.179 errors - there are so many users who "have" the DataDoctor button (much more than the 96 who participated) - but with this result ratio, this is a Sisyphus task and cannot be solved in one human life...... oh I am again so pessimistic - sorry
Don't give up, Andy!  Wikitree will never be completed.  There will always be new errors to correct, merges to do, sources to add.  That's the fun of it.

If you want to continue working on merges you can find a list of ones that have sat for awhile under "Find" and "Pending Merges." Now anyone is able to work on them since one or both managers (some were orphaned) have neglected to follow through on the merge.  That's what I have switched over to doing this past week.  I research the person to try and add sources, clean up the bio if needed, then complete the merge.  Sometimes it leaves other family members in a duplicate situation, so I go request a merge on them.
