We are a relatively new project, which has been created with the intentions of caring for profiles of people born in Spain and it's autonomous islands. In addition, Spanish naming conventions can be complicated to enter on profiles, so we can also help with that. :)

If you were born in Spain, or on one of its islands, have Spanish ancestors, or just speak Spanish or one of its dialects, and would like to help translate records, we would love to have you involved in the project.

Take a look at our Spain Project page and if you feel you would like to join us please post an ANSWER to this thread, and I will send you an invitation to our google group and get you joined to the project :)

(Please note that this project does not cover Latin America. Please see Latin American Roots Project for other Spanish speaking countries.)

too bad the sources pages doesn't list sources yet since there's a few ancestors of mines that i'm sure were born in spain but can't trace their lines much further(if at all)
That is one of the things we are trying to work on, but as with any new project, there is a lot to do :)

If you have some good places to find sources please do let us know and we will add them. Better still, come and join us and work with one of our teams to locate them. All help is greatly appreciated :)

I have roots back to Spain....currently working on my Greatgrandmother's family who came to California when it was New Spain....she was a Castro. Are you aware of the website www.SomosPrimos.com....it means "We are cousins"....the owner, Mimi Lozano does it for free monthly....it has tons of Hispanic history....it is an offshoot of SHHAR, The Hispanic Genealogy society....

I speak Spanish, and I have ancestors that came through Florida: Ortega, DeSoto and so on; they married with the French people in Louisiana. I've started to trace from a daughter of Louis Juchereau de St Denis and his criolla wife, Emmanuella (granddaughter of a commandante in New Spain). I'd love to join.
Thanks Gail, If you feel you would like to help, we would love to have you in the project, just let me know :)

Wendy

I should as I am related to Lady Sancha, but the 14th Century was so long ago.

Hi David,

You are right, the 14th Century was long ago, and you must have so many ancestors with some intriguing lives to add. We would love to have you involved in the project. I will drop you a pm shortly :)

I have a great deal of information on those men who were sent from Spain to Mexico and California. Names such as Yorba, Grijalva; Sepulveda; etc.  These men and their descendants became the first non-NA settlers of San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and other locations.  Best regards, Lilly Martin

I would love to. My ancestors are from Menorca and we’re brought in ships to Saint Augustine. I would love to know if I still have relatives there.

Hi Lola,

We would love to have you involved in the project. I lived in Mallorca for 5 years, so i can guess what Menorca is like :)

Unfortunately I can't pm the details to you as you seem to have not been logged in when posting. Would you please post a message on my profile or pm me your Wikitree Id please?

I'd love to lend a hand with translation. I haven't traced any of my lines back to Spain as of yet, but I'm only back to the early 1800s right now and supposedly I am part Iberian. So maybe I will discover something along the way!

I am not a native speaker, but am fluent in Spanish (B.A. and M.A. degrees).  Need an opportunity to use it, since I moved away from Calif. to Maine, haven't had many chances!  Would be glad to help translate Span to Eng  or Eng to Span.  Way back in college and grad school, had classes in old Spanish lit, may be able to help if you have records several hundred years old.

Thank you Sue, that is very much appreciated. I will send you a pm to join the project :)

I have traced my ancestry to at least one Spanish ancestor, but it is not well-documented. On the other hand, I lived in Spain for ten years and am fluent in the language. I am happy to help out as time allows.

Hello, I work on several unrelated heritage projects with extended family and have interest in contributing as a voluteer if occassio al research or collaborative tasks are open still. My connections are surprisingly several hundred years old, yet the admixture and haplogroups- even physical affinity have somehow remained in an English colonized territory... How this remains primary admixture is a very cool mystery. Please reach out, I would love to get involved, please. Gratefully,

I would like to join the Spain project.  I have limited time and physical limitations, but if I can contribute in some small way, I want to.  I have added many profiles from Valladolid, Spain.  At present am up to my 7th great grandfather married in 1695 in Tiedra.

I'm interested in the Spain Project.  I have Spanish ancestors on a couple branches of my tree and would like to help.

I've also adopted a few profiles that need some work and would like to get help with finding reliable sources. They fall under Pre-1700.

Thanks!  smiley

Hi!

I am Spanish, from Murcia and I'd love to help with the project. I am working on my own family tree and I have reached up to 4 degree of ancestors! I konw it is not that much but I'm quite proud.

Regards!
