Destroyed genealogical evidence... I almost cried!

I was posting about my genealogy journey and how today I found connections via my DNA test to the Younger/Dalton gangs... A friend said she was connected to them too and we spoke via private message only for her to share how her grandfather had some old letters from Jesse James that got destroyed before anyone know what they were... I almost cried! Be careful before destroying what you might think is junk, guys - you may destroy priceless artifacts affecting your entire family tree - and even American history!

I still have a stack of papers that my grandmother gave me over 30 years ago with names and dates, and yes even some pictures and newspaper clippings, when she turned over her genealogy project to me. Some I have not been able to link to our family but they will not be destroyed by me because as you point out, you never know if they could be the link you were looking for.

It's sad when I go to estate sales where they're selling  late 1800's and early 1900's family photos and family bibles  (no telling what else)....
