With only two years separating the birth of John II and Simon it would seem they hitched simon up to the wrong John.

Two years is kind of a normal spacing for children. Why would that make it unlikely that they have the right father?

Father born about 1430, first three children born 1433, 1435, 1440. May not be the wrong father but the birth dates need to be researched/confirmed.
