I wanted to share this family photo of Thomas Dandridge Hilliard with the community. Location: South Carolina. Date: 1863.

I hope this is correct. This is a picture of Private Thomas Dandridge and his brother Corporal John Hilliard of North Carolina Company, 12th Infantry Regiment in uniform with knives

It was found in the Library of Congress digital collections / Civil War portraits.

WhT a fantastic photo, so different from i normally se of photos, it is really exciting to watch with the two great guys on the photo almost looking dangerous

I think if I meet them in the dark I would certainly be scared

I had a relative killed at Spotsylvania, May 6, 1864. Alas, no picture survives. Which meaning, you have a real treasure here, MH. That’s for sharing this photo with us.

That is sad Pip, I always find it sad when there are no photo of relatives that had live, and as you mention this photo really is a treasure to own.

There are numerous photos that are unidentified in the Library of Congress, more are added daily it seems. Identification is usually collaborative. All should remember: those missing photos can turn up any day! Happy Hunting!
