Rest in peace Dorothy Coakley, a wonderful WikiTreer to the end

Hi WikiTreers,

If you've been on WikiTree awhile, chances are good you crossed paths with Dorothy Coakley.  She was a bright spark on our site and active as an Arborist, Mentor, Connector and so much more.

We received word from her daughter today that Dorothy passed away suddenly back in June.

Dorothy was  truly a wonderful addition to the WikiTree community and will be very missed.

As Jillaine pointed out, Dorothy WikiTree-ed right until the end.  Even on her last day, she answered a G2G question to help another member: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/633685/photo-baptismal-record-africa-pike-about-mother-blounts-pikes

Rest in peace, Dorothy.

Here's Wikitree's interview with her (Meet our members):

Dorothy was one of my favorite people to work with. She was thoughtful, kind-hearted and a brilliant WikiTreer. I will miss her a great deal.

This news hit me hard, as we worked together many a times on research or on questions here on g2G forum. Not only does she have my first name but her dedication and love for wikitree just always shined through. I knew she had been ill and slowed down alot but she was still trying to participate and share when she could. Dorothy, you will be missed by your family and friends here on WikiTree!!

Thank you Eowyn for informing us and also for making her a new sticker with a candle!!

Here is a story Dorothy C. wrote about her home town of El Cerrito and the library she worked at back in Aug 2011. https://patch.com/california/elcerrito/whos-who-dorothy-coakley-knows-where-the-bones-are-buried
You are the first person I thought of when I heard this news, Dorothy ...  because -- as I've said before --  you are my favorite Dorothys. :-)

So sad that we won't have Dorothy C's quick wit and always-cheerful words anymore. She will be missed by so many.
Thank you Julie, yes she definitely will be missed but we know she is in a better place and no more sickness!

Sad news indeed. Dorothy was my distant cousin, many times over, so I bumped into her often around the tree, as well as on G2G. She was pleasant and reliable -- much like the sweet photo that's posted on her profile. I'll miss her.

Will miss Dorothy's G2G contributions, that were so helpful and often brilliantly witty.  Went searching for a post of hers, a couple months ago, that had  made my day, and her last words on that topic were.

"My work is done.

Exits whistling. " heigh ho , the dairy oh- the farmer in the dell"....

That's a treasure to remember, Pat!

She was such a lovely person and I enjoyed every interaction with her! I read her profile page last night after I found out she had passed away and I love that she had this statement: Oh, by the way, should you look for my place of death, a good place to start is at the Columbarium near Northbrae Community Church, Solano and The Alameda, Berkeley, California in the "Librarian's Corner."

Well, Dorothy, if I'm ever there, I'll be sure to stop by and say hi.

I will miss Dorothy's good humour and kind words. She was a "lead by example" person and a kind and thoughtful mentor. Heaven has gained a gentle soul with a sunny smile.

She will probably be gently scolding our ancestors for giving us all tangles to unravel :)

WikiTree has definitely lost a great asset! Dorothy was a gentle soul who led by example. Her kindness and humor won't be forgotten. Rest well dear Dorothy.

As others have indicated, Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great example of

  1. We know misunderstandings are inevitable. We try to minimize them by being courteous to everyone, even those who don't act accordingly.

Rest in peace Dorothy,

Your contributions to wikitree and your assistance to others will always be appreciated.

May the memories be pleasant and the journey sweet and may the cool breeze be always on your sails.  And may the peace that passeth all understanding be with your family and friends.

Very sad news. =( Condolences to her and her family.  I don't remember if I saw her post or if she and I interacted, but, it's always sad when we lose a member. Condolences to her family.

I was so sad to hear this news. She was a wonderful, funny, generous and kind lady and it was a real pleasure to work with her on the Mentors Project. She will be hugely missed. R.I.P. Dorothy.

Dorothy was a wonderful helpful cousin on everything related to Wikitree.  I am sad not to have expressed this to her more often before her sudden departure.  We will miss her dearly
