What is the Best Privacy Setting for Living People, so that the immediate Family Can see the Profile?

Hi Russ.

As long as the immediate family is on the Trusted List, they can see everything on the profile regardless of the Privacy Level.

The Privacy Level determines what people outside the Trusted List can see. For living people, we recommend Private. If the person is a minor or is especially sensitive about privacy, use Unlisted. If the person is comfortable with the sharing, they might want Private with a Public Biography or even Private with a Public Biography and Family Tree.

Not to trample all over Chris, but I did want to add one thing.  This is purely nothing more than my personal opinion, but I try to take the "just enough" approach.  I try to keep my privacy settings as open as possible without stepping on toes or upsetting folks.  This allows other contributors to more easily identify or reject matches and helps with the whole collaborative nature of the site.  Everybody's comfort level is different, but I try to be as open as possible.

Thank you for your comments. My concern is for a specific project that I have chosen to use WikiTree to help me with. I am attempting to build a trust, within my family, to provide information on living cousins.

That is not disagreeing with you at all. I think that once the trust has been established, folks will reach their own comfort level.

Great point, Thank you. My Project is ALL about the living and their children. I have their ancestors, been researching them for a long time. I am trying to gather information about the living, thus my concern about Privacy.

I too belief to keep things as open as possible, offcourse with regards to living peoples privacy. But on the other hand I wonder sometimes if we aren't going a bit overboard with this privacy-concern. I recently extended my search through Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace etc. If you see what people share on their public profiles nowadays, it is hard for me to understand what is wrong with just their name (and maybe birthdate) on a familytree-site. (Offcourse I allways ask first before I post a profile ;-)
