Is there a single getting started section that is compact and complete.

Question

I am sitting here having uploaded a GEDCOM file with 13 WIKI pages open to various subjects and no idea what to do next.  The GEDCOM file is based on 4400 people and I cannot add my brother because he is not on watchlist.. Its overwhelming and probably means I am missing some key piece of information.  I keep losing track of the list of relatives that is used for matching and comparing with no idea how to get back to it. I started the intro lessons which got me to this state of affairs.

Best suggestion I can make is dump your 4400 member gedcom and come back with smaller ones. That gives you the opportunity to learn how to do WikiTree and doesn't take nearly as long as a much larger file would do. It will allow you to see how WikiTree works, how the GEDcompare works, and how to evaluate whether or not the individuals in your file match those already on WikiTree.

I have to agree with Shirley but I did not want to have to be the one to tell you to dump the large Gedcom.

Count me in with Shirley and Robynne.  I'd go a little farther, and say that GEDCom import, especially with huge files, is not a 'getting started' activity.

Wikitree does have a steep learning curve, but once you understand it, then it becomes much easier.

The next step after uploading your GEDcom is to do the GEDcompare process - but for such a large Gedcom this may take a while.

The idea of GEDCompare is to make sure that none of the people on your GEDCom are already on Wikitree so that you don't inadvertently create any duplicate profiles.

GEDCOMS are NOT automatically populated throughout Wikitree.

I've been here over a year and I'm still learning every day. I don't know how to help with your particular issue, but please know you're not alone. This site can be overwhelming and downright confusing sometimes! But I find it's worth it as you go along, learn new things, and we all benefit from a tree that is standard and well-sourced. Keep going and I'm sure a wiser-than-me WTer will be able to assist with your problem. (This tends to me a wise bunch!)
