How to quickly find a person on my tree!

I now have a thousand or so people in my tree and have not yet figured out how to go to a certain person in my tree. Is there a way from opening page to go to a particular person? If I go to surname I still have to sort thru them. If I do a search I find everyone on WikiTree with that surname and not just mine. I am computer challenged so any help appreciated.

John!  There are over 18 million people in your tree!  cool

John,

You've been given some great tips to handle your search.   I too struggle with quickly finding a profile when I don't remember the user ID;  mainly when it's a pretty common name that provides a long list of names when searched.   Even looking at my Family List  (mentioned below by Ellen Smith) takes some time to scroll through. (Did I mention, I might be a bit impatient.)   I've often hoped WikiTree would  "remember"  the last 25 or so profiles I had viewed.  But since that's not the case....... I use an  "unusual name search mode"   (OK there's no such thing).... But I can remember  Ellison Plunkett (who only has 6 profiles show up when you search Ellison Plunkett)  is the brother of John Plunkett.     Obediah Wood  (who has about 5 profiles show up on a name search)  is the father of William Wood.....  etc.       It might not be for everyone,  but it helps me.  (And no I'm not computer challenged..... but perhaps in other ways.)

Best of Luck in settling on your approach.

If you belong too Ancestry.com.Put your Tree on there, when searching

for a person,There is a box to put name you are searching for.

Hi!

I usually use the 'Family Tree & Tools" link (under the My WikiTree link in the top right menu) which shows me a tree view in pedigree format. I can click on the person there or move up the tree down any line.

If you already know the user id you can go directly to a page by adding that id on the end of the url. For example, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Surname-240 (where 240 is the profile number.

Unfortunately I am not sure of any faster ways, other than searching the name directly in the search bar.

Hope this helps

Except for adding their ID name & number directly into the URL bar, no there does not seem to be a more direct way. I just use my watchlist and look through the surnames.

How is it that you've overlooked your Family List, Robynne?

Because I can never remember where to find it!!  LOL

You can also limit the Search for a Person to those on your Watchlist by clicking the "only my Watchlist" radio button.

I like the Family List for this purpose. It's a link under Family Tree & Tools, but it's easier for me to get to it from the link under the tab that's headed by the WikiTree ID# (on your profile that would be the Owen-6937 tab). By default, the Family List includes 10 generations of your direct ancestors, sorted by Last Name at Birth, and there are other options available.

If you are on the Trusted List for a person's profile, you can find it on your Watchlist (which is a link under the "My WikiTree" tab).
