merging Pelling 250 and Pelling 226

Question

I just merged Pelling-250 and Pelling-226 together, I thought the second name which should be the lower number would be the final merge but it turned out to be Pelling -250 is the final merge. Should it be Pelling-226? It is the lower number and has more information. Does it matter what the final identification is? Can it be changed? Will there have to be a cleanup of data?  Will someone repair and clean it if it is necessary, thank you.

They don't appear to have been merged yet. Did you approve the merge? Each profile manager has to approve it. When I looked just now the merge was not ready to be completed yet.

Thanks for replying. I thought I merged them but obvious not :) I wont merge  them again because I was told that the final identification number should be the lowest number. Someone else can merge them that is more knowledgeable than I am.

You are correct about the lowest number. When you start the final merge action, before you select the various different data you want, there will be a warning if the numbers are the wrong way round, and a section of text to click to reverse the direction of the merge ie to make it high to low.

Thanks for that tidbit Joe - I did my first merge the other day, with great trepidation. I knew the rule about lowest number, but there is nothing in Help that indicates how to control it. So just hoped for the best and that it would default. Nice to know it will warn you.

UPDATE: I received an update from Wikitree and it said that the merge was completed by Chris Cade. Thank you Chris.

That's good. Perhaps it was waiting for approval by Chris.

I added the GRO info for the birth - he was registered as Wilfrid ( no "e" ) Archie Pelling, in the Sept quarter of 1893.

P.S. In case you hadn't realised - you and the other profile manager, Chris Cade are 3rd cousins once removed. Common ancestor Thomas Dolman.
