Unable to merge Abbot-33 and Abbott-538

Question

I have tried to merge Abbott-33 and Abbot-641 but I get a message that the merge is already in progress by another user. A message also appears stating that I can do it in 5 minutes, if the process has not completed. I tried earlier this afternoon and just now.

Am I doing something incorrectly?

Corrected to note the other profile is Abbott-538 (not Abbot-641).

So sorry! I meant to have the two profiles as
Abbot-33 and Abbott-538.

I didn't see anything on the profiles to prevent a merge. I proposed merging both Abbott-538 and Abbott-641 into Abbot-33.

I am still having problems with this merge. I am the PM for two of the three profiles. The other PM is Michelle Carter for Abbot-641.

When I try to complete the merge, I get the following message:

The merge of Abiel Abbott (Abbott-538) and Abiel Abbot (Abbot-33) is already in progress by another user. If it is not completed in five minutes, you can complete it.

But then I still cannot complete it. Also, right now, these three Abiel profiles are listed as siblings. So I can't make any edits to the two that I am the PM for: Abbott-538 and Abbot-33. 
I wanted to add my source and change the birth month from April to May.

You should be able to edit these profiles before they are merged. In fact, it would be an excellent idea to correct any errors in them while they are waiting to be merged.

Ellen, who do I ask since I can't edit them? Since their birth dates are close or the same, I get the error message about them being too close. I don't want to make more of a mess than these profiles already are by giving one of them a fictitious birth year so I can save the edits.

There's a problemette with the other merge (641) because the grandparents are different
