There are a couple of transcription errors on the census. Amy's birthplace is Miles Platting and Mary Cade is actually Eade.

Hi Matthew Id got both the typos thanks, I think the Southport lead is my best bet, as Francis is staying with a Bolton lad, and I know there were no other Francis Gillards born in Bolton around 1884

There's a second marriage in my post in 1918 in Wandsworth to a May Guy.  Wasn't sure if you'd spotted both!

I was also thinking about WW1, is there a chance he signed up and was killed? CWGC WW1

I'm assuming you've also thought of immigration records?

Hi Brenda, Seen a F.W.G. in WW1 got medals in Royal Engineers, but cannot put him there, the second marriage in 1918 I think Iv checked that but give it another look, and yes done the immigration side
