I just found a book on Ancestry titled "The Bench and Bar of New Hampshire."  One of Ted's ancestors was a very high level judge in New Hampshire.  In 1855 the Congress of the United States created a new tribunal, the Court of Claims and selected Teds ancestor for the position.

This book provides a brief two page biographical on the high level judges in NH.  If anyone would like me to look up someone, and send them the pages I would be happy to..
